How to Send Large Files Over The Internet

How to Send Large Files Over The Internet
Have you ever been in a pinch when you had to send a large amount of data to someone over the internet? Email providers allow you to send only about 25 MB of data which is not very convenient. If the file is too large to be sent as an attachment, you can send the file through a file hosting service such as Google Drive or share it via peer-to-peer apps like JustBeamIt.
Usually what people do is, they upload the large file in question to cloud services like Google Drive, Dropbox or Microsoft’s One Drive. Cloud services provide storage space around 2 GB or more. Cloud Services are pretty convenient if you do not mind uploading the large file into the cloud first. One Drive allows uploading individual files up to 2 GB whereas Google drive allows individual file up to 1TB in size.

If you still want the file to be sent as an e-mail attachment, you can split the large file into smaller parts of 25 MB by using a utility known as HJ-Split. The recipient can combine these smaller parts to get the whole, to get the original file.

Another web service called WeTransfer  allows you to upload single files up to 2GB into their server and all you need to provide is the recipient’s email address. No signing-up or signing-in required. The file will remain in the server for seven days. A download link will be sent to the recipient and the recipient can download the large file from this link. WeTransfer also has an iOS app that allows you to send up to files up to 10GB.

But in all the above cases, you have to upload the file to a server before the recipient can download the file. This is where JustBeamIt comes into action. This is a peer to peer app meaning that the file transfer takes place directly from the sender and the receiver. You only have to drag and drop the file to be sent in the JustBeamIt Website and you will be given a link. The link can be shared with the person that you wish to share the file with and when that person clicks on the link, the file will start to download. So if you do not wish to upload the file to any server, JustBeamIt would be helpful.

These are the frequently used methods to send a large amount of data over the internet to other people. So choose a method of your convenience and start sending. I hope you found this information helpful.
