Microsoft has made the Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones gone live for free public download. Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones improve overall users experience with features Skype chat in messaging and VoIP directly in the phone app, Notifications sync between desktop and mobile, Action Center provides access to two more rows of quick access settings with an expanded view, and Photos app which pulls in images from One Drive cloud storage.
Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones currently works with smartphone such as Lumia 630, Lumia 635, Lumia 636, Lumia 638, Lumia 730, and Lumia 830. To install Windows 10 Technical Preview, Windows smartphone need at least 8GB of storage, Windows Phone 8.1 already installed on the phone with version number is 8.10.14219.341.
Here’s how to download and install Windows 10 Technical Preview for phones:
Before install:
Back up your data first! Not that you had any excuse not to anyway, but
be sure to perform a backup on your data before you upgrade if you have
anything you can’t recover.
- Sign up for the Windows Insider Program with Microsoft Account email address
- Head to Windows Phone Store, and then download the Windows Insider app
- Once installed, launch the app and sign in account to join Windows Insider Program
- On the welcome screen, tap “Get Preview Builds” and choose an insider ring
- Choose insider fast option, and wait for released updates
- Now the warning message about installing Windows 10 Preview for phones will appear on phone screen. Tap accept button to accept the terms
- Now, go to phone settings > phone update > and tap check for updates. After updates, tap download button to download and install Windows 10 Preview. The process will take between 10 minutes to 2 hours depending on phone.
- Once finished installed, Windows phone will be running Windows 10 Preview.
